Huh?  What?  What?  Why did HAL hit our blank??!!

Hmm, let's see...  Have you played any blanks?  Hm, not really...  It's only HAL that has been playing blanks like crazy!  You kept quiet and respect it, just in case something comes up.

But HAL doesn't know for sure if you have a blank, and you just repeated the 2 (one of your starting numbers), so HAL obviously chose to respect your 2 (you are the leader, remember).

This might have been unfortunate -- following the basic rules may end up causing you damage...  (but what the hell, that doesn't mean that the rule was not a good idea - in general, it is much more the situations in which it makes you win than the situations in which it makes you lose, as perhaps this one...)
