So Adam keeps hitting HAL's 1. Well, good for him... :-( After all, he also had to try and respect the 3's that Mike is playing like crazy!
At this point, you can play either the 3-0 or the 2-0. The 3-0 would be absurd! You would be forcing the game either to 3's (Mike's favour), or to blanks (Adam's favour).
An exception to this conclusion (about the 3-0) might be the following: if you force it to blanks, you could make Mike pass, and that would be good, even though you are helping Adam -- remember, HAL is playing ahead of Adam, so it is not particularly bad to play in Adam's favour if it's really going to make Mike pass. However, in this particular case, what would make you think that Mike is going to pass on blanks? There is only one blank on the table, and you have two of them. That leaves four other blanks, so it is very likely that Mike will have at least one blank.
That means that we hold to our initial conclusion: playing the 3-0 would be a bad idea!
Besides, if you play the
0-2, you are repeating your 2, and that probably would be bad news for
Mike!
